What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on Pirate Ship?

Learn about the two-step authentication process that we use to verify your email address and keep your Pirate Ship account secure

We may be pirates Matey, but we ARRrrr serious about protecting your account! To ensure that your Pirate Ship account stays as secure as y'er treasure, our software requires you to partake in Two-Factor Authentication to log in.

Understanding Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and how it works

  • Definition of Two-Factor Authentication: Two-Factor Authentication describes the process of protecting your Pirate Ship account with an added layer of security. As an analogy, think of it like turning the lock in your front door, then sliding a latch in place to keep it from opening 🔒

    • Like those two locks on your front door, 2FA ensures that your Pirate Ship enjoys double the security!

  • How 2FA Works: Once you enter your email address and password on the login screen, we will email you a unique 6-digit code that you'll need to enter on the next page to log in to your account.

    • Here's how that looks:

    • Once you provide that code, you'll be taken directly to your Ship page, where you can buy and print your labels!

Do I need to enter the 6-digit code every time I log in?

  • Different Codes Each Time You Log In: You'll never receive the same 6-digit code from Pirate Ship twice. Since it's different each time, our 2FA process requires you to enter this 6-digit code each time you sign in.

    • The 6-digit code changes every time you log in to prevent anyone except you from signing in with your email address. With these unique codes being sent to you, only you will be able to log in to your account once you provide them.

    • Remember: you can't use old codes that we sent to you from previous logins!

What if several people use the same email address on my account to log in?

  • Add New Users to Your Account for 2FA: Our 2FA verification emails are sent to the email address you use to log in to your Pirate Ship account. If several users currently access your Pirate Ship account (for example, multiple employees using a single company login), we suggest creating unique email logins for each person accessing the account.

    • While multiple employees can enter the same email address on our login page, they may not be able to access that email's inbox to view our verification emails...and they won't be able to log in to Pirate Ship 🙈

  • How to Add New Users with Unique Logins: You can add as many users to your Pirate Ship account as you like! To add a new user, contact our Support Crew with the new user’s full name and email address, and we'll email them an invite to create a unique email login and password ✔️
