Learn how to file claims for UPS carrier liability through the InsureShield Claims Portal

All UPS labels you purchase on Pirate Ship come with $100 of carrier liability, no matter which service you choose*. Here's how to file an insurance claim for a missing or damaged UPS shipment!

*Note: UPS® Ground Saver packages may be handed to USPS for last-mile delivery. UPS carrier liability only applies to the portion of the journey when UPS has the package.

File UPS carrier liability claims through the InsureShield Claims Portal

  • Use the InsureShield Claims Portal for UPS Carrier Liability Claims: You can file claims for any missing or damaged UPS shipments through the self-service InsureShield Claims Portal. Read how to file a claim here.

    • Contact InsureShield with Questions: Please note that Pirate Ship's crew doesn't have access to claim information. If you'd like to request an update after filing your claim, please reply to the email you received from InsureShield. Any claim updates will come from InsureShield, not us.

Benefits of InsureShield vs regular UPS carrier liability

With InsureShield, you get even more protection and benefits than you do with regular UPS carrier liability 🎉 Here are some:

  • Package Theft is Covered: InsureShield provides coverage for stolen packages marked as "Delivered," whereas regular UPS carrier liability doesn't.

  • Both Goods and Shipping Costs are Covered: InsureShield provides coverage up to the invoice value of the goods plus your shipping costs.

  • Self-Service Claims Portal: The biggest benefit is the convenience of being able to file claims yourself through the InsureShield Claims Portal 😉 In the portal, you can file claims, check the status of any claim, and designate how you'd like to receive payouts.

What if I've already filed a claim with UPS?

  • Claims Filed with UPS Must Be Filed Again with InsureShield: Since you purchased your UPS label through our platform, you'll need to use Pirate Ship's InsureShield Claims Portal any time you need to file a claim for carrier liability instead of going through UPS.

    • So, even if you start the claim process with UPS directly, you'll still need to file one through the InsureShield Claims Portal 🙈 Sorry for the trouble, Matey!

UPS carrier liability does not include taxes & fees

  • Taxes and Fees Excluded: UPS carrier liability doesn't include any taxes and fees associated with the order you're shipping. Those amounts won't be paid out with the $100 of carrier liability for UPS claims.

Frequently asked questions about filing UPS carrier liability claims through InsureShield (FAQs)

  • When should I file a claim?

    For timely processing, report a lost or damaged shipment through the InsureShield portal immediately upon discovery, and never any further than 60 days after delivery, in accordance with the InsureShield Terms and Conditions.

  • How can I check the status of my claim?

    You can check your claim status in the InsureShield portal by clicking on the Claim Detail link that will be emailed to you after submitting your claim. You can also log back into the portal to check your status.

  • How long does the claim process take?

    InsureShield typically pays claims within a matter of days, as long as you have provided all the required documents and evidence to support your claim. If InsureShield needs additional information to further review your claim, you'll receive a written notice at the email address you provided when filing the claim.

  • How will I get paid?

    Claims are paid by either Direct Deposit/ACH or Zelle, based on the preferences you select when you file the claim. You can also elect to receive your payout via a physical check that gets mailed to you.

  • Who should I contact if I have questions about my claim?

    Questions about your claim should be directed to UPS Capital at insureshieldsupport@ups.com.
