Pirate Ship verifies addresses against the USPS® address database

  • Automatic address verification: Pirate Ship automatically verifies your domestic addresses against the USPS address database (which contains over 169 million addresses, with new addresses being added each year!)

How address correction on Pirate Ship works

  • Understanding Pirate Ship's address correction feature: In your Settings > General Settings, you can toggle between three settings for address correction:

    1. Confirm address correction

    2. Automatically correct addresses

    3. Disable address correction

  • Here's how those settings look in your General Settings:

Understanding each address correction setting

  • Confirm address correction: With this setting, a pop-up window will appear with a suggested address correction whenever you enter an incorrectly formatted address. After you click "Get Rates," you'll be able to choose between the corrected address or the original address you entered.

  • Disable address correction: Choosing this setting will toggle off all address correction. Your labels will be purchased with no change to the addresses you provide for your recipients.

  • Automatically correct addresses: If you enter an incorrectly formatted address, Pirate Ship will automatically make corrections based on the information in the USPS address database.

Pro Pirate Tip: We recommend keeping "confirm address correction" enabled! This setting provides the most flexibility, since you can either stick with the original address you entered or select the suggested address correction.

Enabling this setting will help minimize the chances of your packages being returned due to incorrect addresses.

Can I ship to an address if it doesn't exist in the USPS database?

  • Shipping to unverified addresses: If the address you enter cannot be verified, Pirate Ship will still attempt to purchase the shipping label with that address.

    • If either UPS® or USPS® rejects the address at that point, Pirate Ship will display the error after you complete the purchase and allow you to download a spreadsheet so you can manually correct the address and try again.
