UPS Ground Saver packages must only be handed to UPS. If a UPS package is dropped off anywhere other than at an authorized UPS drop-off point, the package will be disposed of, and insurance won’t cover that
USPS Tracking Numbers on UPS Ground Saver Labels: When you purchase a UPS Ground Saver label, it may contain a USPS tracking number on the bottom. This is because UPS hands off some UPS Ground Saver packages to USPS, which carries out the last-mile delivery.
Never Give UPS Ground Saver Packages to USPS: Even though you may see a USPS tracking number on the label, you must only give UPS Ground Saver packages to UPS!
Never give UPS Ground Saver packages to USPS, or you'll risk the package being disposed of and your shipment will be lost.
This USPS policy isn't unique to UPS Ground Saver shipments - USPS will dispose of ANY packages that contain postage from other carriers
Insurance is Voided for Disposed Packages: Shipping insurance will not provide coverage for any packages USPS disposes of, as the InsureShield Terms and Conditions list your "compliance with the transportation carrier’s shipping terms and conditions in effect at time of shipment" as a condition for coverage.
In addition to InsureShield, standard UPS carrier liability will not provide coverage in this situation.
UPS Ground Saver shipments have limitations to UPS carrier liability
Carrier Liability Limitations for UPS Ground Saver: While UPS Ground Saver labels come with $100 of UPS carrier liability, these shipments are only covered during the portion of the journey that UPS is responsible for. As soon as USPS takes possession of a UPS Ground Saver package, all UPS carrier liability is void.
Since this is the case, you can’t file a claim for carrier liability for any UPS Ground Saver shipment that USPS scans into its network.
