Why is USPS asking to update my physical address?
Why is USPS asking to update my physical address?

Here's what to do when you get a pop-up requesting that you update your physical address details on Pirate Ship

Updated over a week ago
  • Verifying Your Physical Address: If you're about to buy your label and you see a pop-up asking you to confirm your physical address, don't worry! This is simply a required "housekeeping process" on the Postal Service's behalf to make sure USPS has a valid physical address on file for you.

  • Your Ship From Address Won't Be Affected: Changing or updating your physical address won't affect the Ship From Address that's printed on your labels.

    • Once you update your address, you'll be directed to purchase your label and you'll be back to smooth sailing before you know it β›΅

This request is directly from USPS

  • The Request is from USPS: This request is coming directly from USPS to ensure you can continue buying labels on Pirate Ship. We completely understand how frustrating it can be to have to update your address in the middle of your shipping process πŸ˜…

    • The good news is that it won't take long to make the update! As stated above, changing or updating your physical address won't affect your packages currently in transit or the Ship From Address on your shipping labels.

Which address should I enter?

  • Home vs. Office Address: You can use your physical home or office address. If that doesn't work, try an alternative home or office address.

    • When doing so, double-check that the phone number is accurate, and don't use any addresses outside of your own physical home or office address!

  • No PO Boxes: For this update, USPS won't accept a PO Box as your physical address πŸ™ˆ

    • That said, you can still use a PO Box as your Ship From Address.

Some tips if you're running into issues

Here are some things to troubleshoot if you're running into trouble with updating your physical address information:

  • Spell Out Any Abbreviations: USPS sometimes won't recognize your address if you're using an abbreviation, such as entering "1245 N Pirate Way." Instead, be sure to spell out any abbreviations πŸ‘

    • For example, the address we just listed should be formatted like this: "1245 North Pirate Way"

  • Enter a Plain Phone Number: Your phone number needs to be valid in order to be accepted. This phone number should be standard and not have any information such as "ext x2049."

    • The best practice here is to enter plain numbers, such as 8185551234.
